Year 2's Outdoor Learning

Year 2 visited Stanmer Park for an Autumnal walk to explore how the leaves change and the different types of trees in their local area.

Year 2 made pumpkin soup to launch our new story 'Pattan's pumpkin'...luckily most of the class enjoyed the taste!

Arts and Crafts:

Year 2 used their previous ideas from their various 'map' designs to produce their 'final piece' using felting techniques.

Year 2 have loved our Victorian topic and sound just like Victorian school teachers!

It has been lovely to see their pre-cursive handwriting develop with lovely lead ins!

Year 2 have been focusing on place value this half term and making connections between adding to 10 and adding to 100.

WB 7.10.24 - Preston Manor

Year 2 made fantastic servants at Preston Manor and had been counting down the days for the school trip. 4 children were nearly hired by their maid Ada but, when they realised they would have to give up their weekends and evenings to earn £12 for the year, the novelty wore off!

WB 23.09.24 - Outdoor Learning

Year 2 had a busy day outside for outdoor learning! They have built bridges (just like Brunel - the Victorian inventor), planted seeds and discussed what seeds need to survive and grow. They even conducted a scientific investigation to see whether a seed would grow without sunlight or warmth. They also looked for early signs of Autumn and made an autumnal wand to wave goodbye to Summer.

Year 2 painted self portraits - looking at their features and applying colour mixing techniques.

Stunning Start:

Year 2 have time travelled back to the Victorian times to see what school was like:

Please do not hesitate to catch me before or after school if you have any questions about your child's learning.

Check this web page regularly for updates from inside the classroom!

I look forward to meeting you all and getting to know you better over the coming year.

Take care and see you soon,

Class Information:

PE days will be on Mondays and Tuesdays.

It is crucial for health and safety that your child has a full PE kit in school at all times.

PE kits are available for purchase from the school office.

PLEASE ENSURE YOUR CHILD'S NAME IS WRITTEN IN ALL CLOTHING!

Reading Diaries:

Reading diaries will be handed out along with a book specifically selected for your child. The book will be one they are familiar with and have read in class. Your job - as the listener -  will be to support them and guide them through reading this familiar text to promote their fluency and speed of reading. Please feel free to ask the child questions about the character or what they are reading to support their understanding and comprehension of the text.

As a friendly reminder, you must try to read with your child at least three times every week and then write comments in their reading record on how you felt the reading went.

Was your child able to read all words accurately?

Did they segment and blend the sounds properly?

Were there any tricky or new words?

Could your child recall what they read?

Were they able to relate to the characters in the story?

These diaries will be collected in on Fridays and checked on a regular basis!
